Our final stop is on the most southeastern tip of the SFPS District where we arrive to meet the Dust Devils of El Dorado Community School! El Dorado Community School, located off Highway 285 in the semi-rural community of El Dorado, is part of the LANL Foundation’s Inquiry Science Education Consortium dedicated to increasing equity and access to quality STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education for students in grades K–6 throughout Northern New Mexico. All El Dorado’s K-5 students participate in art, music and physical education. Middle school students can select from a wide range of offerings, including band, orchestra, choir, physical education and visual arts. An El Dorado tradition is the annual concert at the end of the year to express how much being a part of the El Dorado Community School has influenced students’ lives as they move to high school. El Dorado takes great pride in its Middle School Music Program being a main music feeder to SFPS high schools. The Dust Devils also have many enriching activities that include: --PTA After-School Enrichment Programs --Middle school sports --SWAT (Students Working to Advance Technology) --Hearts and Hands Club --Yearbook --The Student Council El Dorado Community School also offers regular after school care - Monday through Friday for grades K-5. As we conclude our adventure, we take away a new understanding of the schools across SFPS, their history, their unique programs and their original styles. Thank you for joining us on our Journey Across SFPS.

School Safety! At SFPS, school safety is a shared responsibility. SFPS' safety plan, which has been approved by the NM Public Education Department, exceeds state requirements. School safety is achieved through a layered approach, including cameras, fencing and gates, single points of entry, a screening system, staff vigilance and law enforcement partners. RhinoWare is installed on school doors to eliminate any door weaknesses and fortify a door’s ability to keep our students safe. SFPS' safety aide program, which operates in 11 schools, includes a safety aide supervisor, three lead safety aides and 22 safety aides. Students can go to safety aides for help. New Mexico requires SFPS to do a shelter-in-place and response to active shooter drill, an evaluation drill and four fire drills within the first four weeks of school and two district-selected drills. SFPS was the first district to place Stop the Bleed kits in our schools, which are for large wounds and include a tourniquet. SFPS is part of Sandy Hook Promise, which encourages all if you see it, to report it (https://tips.sandyhookpromise.org/?_ga=2.95197276.1710815893.1629413175-1669150287.1629413175). Through the Say Something Anonymous Reporting system, you can submit secure, anonymous safety concerns to help someone who may hurt themselves or others. Submit a tip through Sandy Hook's secure website (https://tips.sandyhookpromise.org/?_ga=2.95197276.1710815893.1629413175-1669150287.1629413175). We leave SFHS and turn our sails towards an alternative type of institution with a innovative type of curriculum. Early College Opportunities High School (ECO) provides students with an academically rigorous educational experience that offers dual credit offerings with Santa Fe Community College, the Institute of American Indian Arts and San Juan College. Dual credit courses allow high school students to earn college credits while simultaneously earning high school credits. ECO is open to students who are motivated to engage in fast-paced, non-traditional learning experiences leading to increased college and career opportunities in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics)-related fields. 94% of ECO students are enrolled in Career Technical Education (CTE) courses. These courses include: --Art, Design, & Architecture --Computer Science --Greenhouse --Construction --Welding (students can learn and pass the American Welding Society certification in shielded metal arc welding) --Auto & Motorcycle Tech --Auto Collision In addition, ECO offers some of the most unique extracurriculars across the district, which are: --Go-Kart Club --Climbing Club --SEMA Jeep Build This is an incredible opportunity for Santa Fe students looking for a variation in their academics that may suit their direct passion. ECO invites you to schedule a visit and shadow a student to see if this is the environment for you!
