Santa Fe Public Schools (SFPS) brought early literacy to life during its 3rd Annual Literacy Carnival, held last Saturday at Ramirez Thomas Elementary.
The free, family-friendly event welcomed more than 100 families with children ages 0–8 for a morning filled with books, hands-on activities, and engaging entertainment designed to inspire a love of reading from an early age.
Families enjoyed a wide variety of interactive stations and guest booths, including the Santa Fe Bug Museum and the Queen Bee Musical Instrument Petting Zoo. Children explored face painting, dress-up, bubbles, arts and crafts, and even a soft climbing area designed especially for babies and toddlers. A highlight of the event was a lively musical performance by Jules, known for appearances on the Ms. Rachel Show. Young attendees joined Jules on stage and danced together in front of the performance area, creating an energetic and joyful atmosphere.
The Literacy Carnival also served as an opportunity to connect families with SFPS early learning opportunities, including the district’s Pre-K programs and the Early Childhood Center (ECC) for employees’ children. Staff from both programs were on hand to share information, answer questions, and help families explore options for their children’s educational journey.
The event was made possible through the dedication and collaboration of SFPS staff, including Early Childhood Center and Pre-K teams, along with the support of families who contributed their time and energy.
Feedback from attendees reflected the impact of the event, with one parent sharing, “Thank you so much for making events like these accessible for everyone. My kids really enjoyed the activities and the ability to move around from station to station.” Another noted, “The whole thing was lovely,” while a third shared excitement about enrolling their child in Pre-K, highlighting the event’s role in connecting families to SFPS programs.
Through events like the Literacy Carnival, SFPS continues to foster early learning, strengthen family engagement, and build a strong foundation for lifelong literacy.
