Lawrence Lovato was announced today, January 19th, as head coach for the Capital High School (CHS) volleyball program and Mario Montano was named the head coach for the CHS track team today by Superintendent Hilario "Larry" Chavez. “Both of these coaches come into their positions with a desire to create a positive and successful program for our student-athletes,” he said.
He said that “Lovato brings a wealth of knowledge, passion and dedication to our volleyball program. His commitment to fostering teamwork, skill development and sportsmanship aligns perfectly with SFPS' values. The mentorship and knowledge instilled under Coach Max Vargas the past four seasons will be an invaluable resource to build upon for future seasons.”
Superintendent Chavez said that “Coach Montano, with his seasoned coaching experience, will foster a culture of discipline and create a memorable experience on the track. His dedication to developing well-rounded student-athletes aligns seamlessly with SFPS’ commitment to excellence in both academics and athletics. His passion for coaching, coupled with a focus on character development, will undoubtedly inspire our athletes to reach new heights.”
Principal Jaime Holladay said, "We are pleased to announce Lawrence Lovato, a CHS alum, as our head volleyball coach. Coach Lovato has demonstrated his commitment to Jaguar athletics as an assistant coach and we welcome him as a head coach to our coaching family. We are also happy to have Mario Montano as our head track coach. I am confident that Coach Montano will continue to grow our program and positively influence our student-athletes."
Deputy Superintendent Kristy Wagner, overseeing athletics, said, "With Coach Montano and Coach Lovato's passion and coaching philosophy, they are each an excellent fit for their specific program and our district, as well as the aspirations we have for our student-athletes."
Coach Montano said, "I would like to thank the administration at Capital High School and SFPS for this exciting opportunity. I am thrilled and thankful for the chance to serve as the head track coach at Capital High School. I am prepared to embrace the challenge of fostering the growth and inspiration of our youth to become their best selves each day."
Coach Lovato said, "I look forward to working with Athletic Director Kristy Wagner, Principal Jamie Holladay, Athletic Manager Ray Salazar, my coaching staff and the teachers at Capital High School. As a team we can help our student-athletes persevere and reach their goals on and off the court, in the classroom and become successful in all they do in the future. I am excited and ready to take on this new role and guide the Jaguar volleyball program."
