8-25-2021 SFPS COVID-19 Update
Posted on 08/25/2021
Three SFPS students have tested positive for COVID-19, as provided below. When there's a positive case, SFPS’ COVID-19 response specialist, lead nurse or the school's nurse will identify any close contacts and call parents on next steps, including quarantining and testing. SFPS reviews each case individually to determine the most appropriate course of action. School communities are informed of positive cases.

A student at Ramirez Thomas Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 on August 20th. The individual had last been on campus on August 20th.

A student at El Camino Real Academy tested positive for COVID-19 on August 18th. The individual had last been on campus on August 16th.

A student at Gonzales Community School tested positive for COVID-19 on August 22nd. The individual had last been on campus on August 20th.

Contact tracing does not indicate any of these cases were contracted from within SFPS. All personal identifying information will remain confidential and all reporting and cleaning protocols are being followed.

According to Public Education Department guidelines dated August 23rd, individuals who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and who have had close contact with a COVID-19 infectious individual are not required to quarantine if they meet the following criteria:

Are fully vaccinated (i.e., more than two weeks following receipt of the second dose in a two-dose vaccine, or more than two weeks following receipt of one dose of a single-dose vaccine)
Have remained asymptomatic since the current COVID-19 exposure

Any parent/guardian of a student testing positive for COVID-19 must provide a list of close contacts to DOH and SFPS’ lead school nurse or the COVID-19 response specialist who assists with contact tracing.

Any student who displays acute COVID-related symptoms while at school will be sent home out of precaution. A student sent home due to non-COVID-19 symptoms does not mean that the student is positive for COVID-19.
