Superintendent Hilario “Larry” Chavez announced today that Daniel Villescas has been hired as SFPS’ director of digital learning starting on July 26th. “The director of digital learning is critical as SFPS transforms and expands learning environments through strategic and effective use of digital resources,” said Superintendent Chavez. Mr. Villescas assumes the position held by Dr. Neal Weaver, who was promoted in May to chief information & strategy officer.

“We are excited to bring the well-rounded leadership of Mr. Villescas into our program. Our district’s focus on equity, student connectivity and digital resources has gained national attention, and Mr. Villescas will certainly add depth to our Technology Department,” said Dr. Weaver.

Mr. Villescas has 25 years of experience in education with the JeffCo Public Schools and Denver Public Schools in Colorado, Portland Public Schools in Oregon and Mt. Vernon Schools in Washington. He holds a bachelor’s degree in administrative leadership from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in administrative leadership from the University of Colorado at Denver. Currently, Mr. Villescas is nearing completion of a Ph.D. in Education Policy, Leadership and Management. He has served in a variety of leadership and consulting positions.

Mr. Villescas said, “In accepting the position of director of digital learning, I am excited about the opportunities and possibilities. To continue to guide the incredible work that has been done in supporting teachers and school leaders is a great opportunity. I look to build upon this work and continue to have a strong impact that directly benefits students, staff and SFPS’ school communities.”
