SFPS works to provide smarter alternatives to transportation, striving to lessen fossil fuel consumption, pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions.

  • SFPS students will be using the renewable energy of their own legs thanks to our partnership with Free Bikes 4 Kids New Mexico! Read all about the new bike fleets and how several southside schools will integrate bicycle/pedestrian safety classes through their physical education programs.

  • SFPS is on the road to having an electric vehicle fleet by introducing an electric Chevy Bolt and the installation of the first ChargePoint Electric Vehicle charger. Read about that here.

  • SFPS has been selected by the New Mexico VW Settlement Steering Committee to receive $1,119,987 for the “Santa Fe Public Schools: Electrifying Our School Bus Fleet Project” under its third round of funding.  Find more information here.

  • SFPS will be adding an electric bus to the fleet in fall 2021, and have already installed ProTerra 4 port charging station, through local Taos contractor PPC Solar. Learn about the new bus here.

  • SFPS currently has six propane buses in the fleet, reaping financial and environmental benefits with the use of this “greener” technology. You can read about the benefits of propane-powered school buses here.

  • Members of El Camino Real Academy, Bike Santa Fe, Santa Fe Conservation Trust, and the Santa Fe Metropolitan Planning Organization (SFMPO), assembled the 25 bikes they received from donations to the El Camino Real Academy Bike Safety Program. These bikes will allow around 900 kindergarten and 1st grade students to learn how to ride a bike in P.E. class over the next 5 years. See the video here.
