English Language Proficiency Assessments

Santa Fe Public Schools administers the ACCESS for English Language Learners (ELLs) to assess academic English language proficiency. ACCESS for ELLs is administered once per year in grades K-12 to students who are English learners.

ACCESS for ELLs measures a student’s overall English proficiency and progress toward proficiency in four domains: Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing. English learners participate in the assessment annually until they achieve an overall score that indicates English proficiency.

English leaners who have significant cognitive disabilities may take the Alternate ACCESS as designated in their Individual Education Plans (IEP) or 504 plans.
