Alternate Assessments

Students with significant cognitive disabilities may take an alternate assessment in accordance with their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 plan. SFPS offers these students the Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) Alternate Assessment. The DLM Alternate Assessment is aligned to the Essential Elements and is based on the belief that all students should have the opportunity to demonstrate what they know and can do in core academic areas. The Essential Elements are alternate standards that are linked to the Common Core State Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards.

The DLM Alternate Assessment is administered once per year in:

  • English Language Arts and Math in grades 3-8 and grade 11; and

  • Science in grades 5, 8, and 11.
