9th Grade

  • This is a good year to focus on grades — they start counting for college now!
  • Explore different careers that interest to you.
  • What’s your four-year high school plan? Work with your school to create a plan that lists all the courses you hope to take each year. Make sure this plan includes recommended college prep courses.
  • Stay involved in school activities. Join clubs – Drama, National Honor Society, Ping Pong Club, etc. Colleges like to see that you are involved.
  • Learn the difference between courses required for high school graduation and those required for college admissions.
  • During the summer, if you are old enough to work, look for a job where you can develop your professional experience. Consider volunteering. Volunteer service is often viewed by colleges as experience similar to that of a job.
