SRU Students

Four music education students from Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania are currently obtaining field experience through observing, assisting, and teaching in Santa Fe Public Schools. The field experience is a component of the Field Experience Immersion in Music course at Slippery Rock University. According to the course syllabus, this experience provides exposure to different types of diversity and musical offerings not found in Pennsylvania.

Leanne DeVane, SFPS Music Education Coordinator, explained, "Having music students from Slippery Rock University (SRU) in our classrooms is of benefit to SFPS. Their presence is enriching for our students, who are learning more about their instruments, their voices, and their internal musicianship as a result of interacting with these fine aspiring educators. Santa Fe Public Schools Music Department is grateful for the rich opportunity which emanates from our partnership with Slippery Rock."

Santa Fe Public Schools also hosted Slippery Rock University students in 2015. Dr. Kathleen Melago, Associate Professor of Music Education at Slippery Rock University, stated, “This experience will set students apart as music educators committed to diversity and excellence.”

The Slippery Rock University students arrived at SFPS on January 9 and will work with their cooperating SFPS master music educators until January 18. Katie Steele, Voice and Music Education Major is partnered with SFPS music educators Lynn Osborne and Lina Ramos at multiple schools.
