The Mandela International Magnet School (MIMS) opened in August, 2014 and is an IB candidate school for the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) and Diploma Program (DP). The IB accrediting team will visit the school on October 27 - 28, 2016 for its authorization analysis and the school expects authorization as an IB World School in the spring of 2017. The school encourages all students to achieve the IB Diploma and where possible, the IB Bilingual Diploma or receive IB subject certificates. The school provides a small, personalized learning environment for students who want to excel in their understanding of languages, world cultures, and global issues.

As a result of a grant from a local foundation, the Mandela International Magnet School (MIMS) partners with Harvard's Project Zero (HPZ) for the next three-years.
