Substitute Teaching Information
Dear Prospective Substitute Teacher:

Thank you for your interest in Santa Fe Public Schools. Substitute teachers are a valuable service to our students and District, and we appreciate your efforts in providing a quality instructional program in the absence of the classroom teacher. We are currently accepting applications for the 2014-2015 school year.

Qualifications to be a substitute teacher may be found at New Mexico Public Education Department's website.

Information about substitute teaching may be found using the Substitute Handbook.

The process for becoming a substitute closely reflects the normal hiring process of the district:

  • Apply Online at the district website.
  • If the district considers your application for a substitute position, a phone interview will be completed.
  • If recommended for position, you will be notified of the next steps in the process (background, paperwork, license).
  • Attend a new hire orientation for Substitute Teachers.

We encourage individuals not holding a teaching license to take the SubEssentials free online course on becoming a substitute teacher. You'll learn what is expected and what you can do to prepare.

Register for training at: STEDI.org

We look forward to having you in our classrooms.
